Dear 2017

Dear 2017,

As you were happening, I didn’t think much of you. You seemed like another typical year with your ups and downs, so ‘nothing special’ was how I thought I would describe you as you were coming to an end.

I was wrong. You turned out to be one of the best years, in which I’ve changed and I’ve grown so much. Without going into too many details, here are the changes I’m most grateful for.

I’ve decluttered my life – literally and mentally – and I feel lighter without all the stuff, thoughts and relationships that I didn’t need and that I let go of.

I’ve learnt to be much more patient. Sometimes it meant allowing myself to fail in knowing that it’s a small defeat before a big victory that’s coming.

I’ve learnt to consume more consciously. I buy less but of better quality.

I’ve become more active. I cannot tell you how much I hate exercising still but I also cannot tell you how much I love the feeling of accomplishment that comes with sweat and hurting muscles.

I’ve seen my family and friends overcome some serious health issues and get other those.

I’ve practised gratitude so much more: for what I have and for what I’ve achieved and for the opportunities that lay ahead.

I’ve travelled to some amazing places. Iceland and Australia in one year? Yes, please!

I’ve met some awesome and inspirational people and I’ve read some great thought-provoking books.

So yes, when I look back on 2017, I will remember it with a smile on my face, pat myself on a shoulder and say “well done, you”. So thank you, 2017 – for all the ups and all the downs, for all the smiles and tears, for all the joys and hardships, for all the lessons and mistakes and for all the memories. I hope your successor will be at least just as good if not better.

Looking forward to seeing what 2018 brings,

Elena

Hello! Whatever brought you to my blog, I hope you found something interesting to read. Writing to me is more than just sharing my throughts with the world, it's my way to make sense of my own thoughts in the first place. There's something about putting my mind to words that make things simpler and easier, and I think it shows in my posts. Occasionally, I write about lifestyle things, but more often I 'think out loud'. A little bit about me: I usually describe myself as 'a Russian, living in London with a British husband and working on Spanish brands in a French company'. It's as fascinating as it gets because I'm just your normal 30-something young woman trying to enjoy life as much as possible. Happy reading, Elena HJ
